madon37s Posted April 30, 2020 Posted April 30, 2020 (edited) Hi all, I could do with a bit of help please. Just recently my computer seems to struggle with uploading photo's from my mobile phone, I have a Samsung S8 and it has always done it in the past but just can't seem to do it anymore. Below is the sequence that takes place after connecting my S8 to the computer via the proper USB cable. On picture 6 you can see that the green line at the top of the page is going from left to right but it always seems to struggle at this stage and I can never copy any photo's from this file onto my computer. As said previously I have always been able to copy photo's from my phone to the computer but it just won't do it anymore for some reason. I would really appreciate some help with this issue as I have many photo's that I want to upload from my phone. Many thanks. Edited May 6, 2020 by KenB Quote
KenB Posted April 30, 2020 Posted April 30, 2020 Hi, Try right clicking on one of the JPG images to highlight > then CTRL + C Go to your Desktop and CTRL + V This should paste the image on your Desktop. To select more images hold CTRL down and click on the selected images. Then CTRL + C CTRL + V will paste them It may be better if you create a folder on your Desktop and paste the images into this. madon37s Posted May 2, 2020 Author Posted May 2, 2020 Hi, Thanks for the reply. I think I may not have explained myself very well though. It's the problem with the computer not uploading the pictures from the mobile phone into the window properly rather than getting them onto my desktop that is the problem! It always used to but now it just struggles and the green bar at the top of the loading screen (last picture) just gets stuck and won't do anything and so the picture tiles just get stuck and I can't then move any or copy any to a different window on my desktop computer. KenB Posted May 3, 2020 Posted May 3, 2020 (edited) Did you try moving just one image ? Once you have highlighted the images - how are you attempting to transfer them to the computer? [Copy and Paste / Drag and Drop ? ] How much free disk space do you have left on your computer? Can you Copy and Paste images from a file already on the computer to the Desktop? [ I am trying to determine if the Copy and Paste function is working properly ] Edited May 3, 2020 by KenB Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! madon37s Posted May 3, 2020 Author Posted May 3, 2020 I hadn't! but I have just tried moving one image with the drag and drop system and this window is what I got. 800 GB free of 931 GB Yes I can, by either drag and drop or copy and paste. Quote
KenB Posted May 3, 2020 Posted May 3, 2020 Yes I can, by either drag and drop or copy and paste. If this is the answer to copying a file from one location to the Desktop - then Copy and Paste seems to be OK. Your Free Space is fine. Moving an image from your phone to computer produces a problem. You didn't explain how you are attempting to transfer the images from your phone. Have you tried both Copy and Paste / drag and Drop ? madon37s Posted May 5, 2020 Author Posted May 5, 2020 Ok, I am using the charge USB lead that came with the phone to connect it to the computer. The computer does recognise the phone and a window opens up (please see my initial post with pictures on). I think the problem lies somehow with the computer because when I get to the last window (camera) that is where the computer really takes it's time and doesn't upload the picture icons for most of the pictures! I just cannot copy any pictures from that "camera" window to another file on my computer whether I use copy and paste or drag and drop because it seems like the computer hasn't got the full information from the "camera" file icon. TBH, I'm not sure what else I can say to help you with your assessment as I think I have covered everything. In short, the computer doesn't seem to be able to upload the pictures onto the "camera" file in order to then copy them and move them elsewhere. I do hope this helps you a little more and thank you for all your help so far. Quote
KenB Posted May 5, 2020 Posted May 5, 2020 Hi, Thank you for the extra information. You say that you can copy and paste images from one file to another on the PC. This implies that there is nothing wrong with that function. I don't have an S8 to confirm this ...... Can you check this on your phone please? Samsung Galaxy S8 Plug the USB cable into the phone and the computer. Touch and drag the notification bar down. Touch Tap for other USB options. Touch the desired option (e.g., Transfer media files). The USB setting has been changed. You need to pick the appropriate setting for transfering photos. Please let me know if the setting needed to be altered or was already set correctly. madon37s Posted May 5, 2020 Author Posted May 5, 2020 Thanks for the extra help on this. I have done exactly as you have set out for me and the first picture is of what the S8 showed me initially, I then changed the USB use to "Transferring images (second picture). So then I opened up the window to "view all files" and this happened again (third picture). You can see the green bar is near the end of the downloading line but the blue circle that microsoft use to tell you the computer is busy doing stuff is still trying to load the pictures. As an aside, I took the SD card out of the phone and put it into an adapter and then popped it into a USB port on the computer and I was able to copy all the pictures that were on that card, however it wasn't all the pictures that I remember were on there. I have several photo galleries on my phone but they didn't appear in the window. Quote
KenB Posted May 5, 2020 Posted May 5, 2020 Hi, Thanks for the images. If you were able to transfer from the SD Card to the PC then there is nothing wrong with the functionality of the PC. Could the missing images be held on internal memory? [ not the SD card ] If so take a look below to transfer from Internal Memory to SD Card. [ I can't verify this - sorry ] From a Home screen, touch and swipe up or down to display all apps. These instructions apply to Standard mode and the default Home screen layout. Tap Samsung folder then tap My Files . Tap Internal storage. Select the directory/folder that contains the file(s). (e.g., DCIM, Pictures, Music, etc.) Tap the Menu icon https://scache.vzw.com/kb/images/common/menu_icon.gif (upper-right). Tap Edit. Select (check) the desired file(s). To select all files, tap All (upper-left). Tap Move (lower-left). Tap the Folder icon (upper-left) to return to the 'My Files' page. Tap SD card. Select the directory/folder that you wish to move the file(s) to. (e.g., DCIM, Pictures, Music, etc.) Tap Move here. You can then transfer from the SD Card as you did in the last post. Obviously this is a work-around and not a solution. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! madon37s Posted May 6, 2020 Author Posted May 6, 2020 Hi Ken, Many thanks for the suggestion above, that has certainly worked although as you say it is a work around solution rather than an actual solution as to why my computer or phone is not playing together very well! Having said that at least I do have a way of getting my images from my phone onto my computer. Many thanks again for all your help so all I need to do now is to set up my phone so that all screenshots, camera pictures, Whattsapp pictures etc are set up to be saved onto the SD card rather than the internal memory. Quote
KenB Posted May 6, 2020 Posted May 6, 2020 Hi, Glad that worked for you. At least you will be able to transfer your photos. I think it is probably a setting on your phone preventing you from transfering in the usual way. Stay safe.
