Is my monitor about to die?

My monitor is about as old as this desk-top, approximately 5/6 years old. It has a mark like the burned edge of a page of paper. It is not overly large, about 1" long (25.4mm for metre chaps/chapesses) and a 1/4" high along the bottom edge of the screen. It is close to where I had an altercation with a mug of coffee earlier this week.

 

It's not in the software (lunchbox) as it prints out the screen perfectly. I can live with it as it is but will it get worse? I have tried restore but it seens it is beyond that. A BTW is I get an 0x80070005 error when I tried restore - malware bytes indicated it was off as well.

Thanks for answering this. I hope that you are well what with all this virus about.

 

I think the coffee incident was on Tuesday evening and I didn't notice the screen until Thursday evening (I think). I am unsure of the photo.......er.......I'll try.........

I took a photo and saving the image to PC (W7 OS) is not working as it use to do. It will not 'copy' the image for some reason like it use to do. I've just thought of another way. I'll try that in a minute.

Hi again KenB. I thought 'print screen' might work but nope! It doesn't save that direct to 'openoffice' or via 'irfanview'. It is a black splat in the launch bar about 25mm long and 7mm high. Hardly noticable really. If it is just due to the coffee incident then I can live with it as I only noticed it some time later. I don't game or any thing but I do need to sort out the saving of images as that is important to me.

Hi KenB. Success! I managed to copy and paste the image in 'irfanview' and saved it to 'openoffice'.

That certainly is odd.

 

If this is an LCD screen then it could be caused by dropping or ill-treatment.

I suspect that it is a result of you spilling coffee although hard to say exactly.

I doubt that it will grow any bigger - but obviously keep an eye on it.

[ you have to anyway as it is a monitor :) :) ]

Thank you KenB, the monitor is a bit large to manhandle - especially at my age :).

So no it was not dropped - it is an Acer screen - that is flat. Not one of the bulkier ones from yester-year. I am unsure if it is an LCD thingy - hold on speccy might know. Yes, amidst the details.

It is as below but means little to me, it doesn't state the kind of monitor.

Hi Jim

That is an LCD monitor.

It could have had a knock at that point - either way there wouldn't seem to be a way back from where it is now.

It will be a case of "living with it" as you say.
