Hi all

I operate windows 8.1 with Google Chrome on an HP Envy23 desktop

i have had my Envy all in one for a few years and it's worked pretty well but lately after booting up it sometimes is unresponsive for several minutes then eventually comes back to life.

When it is unresponsive I can hear some activity is happening in background.

I wonder if there is something I can do to prevent what is becoming annoying?#Thanks for your help.

Hi Ray,

This could be software that is getting loaded automatically causing the freeze.

Boot up in Safe Mode and see if the machine runs normally.

If it freezes in Safe Mode then it could be a basic driver problem.

If OK in Safe Mode -

From here you can disable the software that is loaded automatically.

[Make sure you make a note of the enabled software so that you know what was enabled / disabled]

Boot up normally - then enable the auto-loaded software a few at a time and check for freezing on boot-up.

Do this until the machine freezes again - when it does you have located the problem.

Disable the last batch and enable one at a time.

Thanks for your quick reply Ken.

I will just keep an eye on this and see how it goes. (am reluctant to carry out the fix until/if it gets worse)

Someone told me this always happens as machines get older? Is

By the way how

Do you have Photoshop?

I had problems with my Windows 7 freezing and found that forcing the Adobe genuine software program stopped the freezes - can't remember the actual program name, sorry.

No problem Ray - what I suggested isn't as complex as it sounds.

There is always a reason for freezing and old age isn't one of them. :)
