jimmyedwards Posted December 31, 2020 Posted December 31, 2020 Hi to all I finally got a new pc with Windows 10. I am having a problem when I turn it on, I have to type in a password which I never use on any pc I own. This pc has a password that the store gave me to use temporarily. It also has the store as local account administrator, how can I do away with that and the password to turn on the pc? Thanks in advance. Quote
KenB Posted December 31, 2020 Posted December 31, 2020 (edited) Hi Jimmy, Password In the Search box [ bottom left of screen ] type .... netplwiz .... hit Enter You will see this: Uncheck the box "Users must enter a username etc " You will probably need to use the password to confirm. ========================== Computer Name In the Search box type ..... control panel .... hit Enter Click on "System and Security .........then "System" you will see this: Click on "See the name of this computer" You will see the computer name here and on the far right side "Change Settings" Click on this and type in the new name. [ Spaces are not allowed or commas etc ] Restart the machine for changes to take effect. jimmyedwards Posted December 31, 2020 Author Posted December 31, 2020 Thanks for your reply KenB I got that part fixed now I still have to use a password to open the pc. How do I get it where I don't need a password to open the pc. Quote
KenB Posted January 1, 2021 Posted January 1, 2021 Re password Did you use the "netplwiz" instruction from the top of my post? Did you confirm the change with the existing password ? This needs a re-boot to confirm changes. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test

ExTS Admin Starbuck Posted January 1, 2021 ExTS Admin Posted January 1, 2021 I have to type in a password which I never use on any pc I own. This pc has a password that the store gave me to use temporarily. It also has the store as local account administrator, So this is not a new boxed PC, it's one that the shop had on display. I had this when I bought a Win XP Pc years ago.... worst buy I ever made. Quote Member of:UNITE
