Bringe Posted January 15, 2021 Posted January 15, 2021 Hi All. Ive not been on here for a while, since then I have changed from XP to windows 10. I think I preffer XP but its getting less and less support now. Anyway. Here's the problem I have (one of several, but one at a time) Apart from using the incognito window, how can I turn off the history all together?? I have watched some clips on youtube about it and I have tried to follow the instructions but had no luck, they either talk to fast or its in hindi. Please, if anyone can give me a step by step easy to understand list of instructions, that would be extremely appreciated !! Quote
KenB Posted January 16, 2021 Posted January 16, 2021 Hi Bringe Take a look here - click here If you want to browse without your history being recorded take a look at DuckDuckGo.com This is a browser that states that they do not track your activity. Bringe Posted January 17, 2021 Author Posted January 17, 2021 Hi KenB. Many thanks for your reply. I do use DuckDuckGo but still have to use the incognito window because DDG is only a search engine, not a browser. so I was told by their support a while ago. So its still google chrome in the background. Is there a way to stop the history being recorded by tweaking something in the registry or somewhere?? Many Thanks in advance. Bringe:smash: Quote

ExTS Admin Starbuck Posted January 17, 2021 ExTS Admin Posted January 17, 2021 Hi Bringe, you may find this helpful 5 browsers that don’t save your history and personal data I did use 'Opera' many moons ago and always found it very light on resources .... might be worth a look. Bringe Posted January 23, 2021 Author Posted January 23, 2021 Hi KenB & Starbuck.:) Thank you both for your replies. I thought rather than altering settings on google, I would give Opera a try. Downloaded it, got to the search page and it still had the google "G" at the left side of the search bar. I tried searching for this website (computer support forums) and all I got was that stupid square from google with "Before you Continue" on it. So I still had to sign into google to be able to use Opera:smash: So Ille uninstall Opera and try the next one. I will post later with the results. Quote

Opera’s default search engine is Google, but you may prefer to search using Ecosia, DuckDuckGo, Amazon, or Wikipedia. To change the default search engine: Go to Settings. Under Search engine, select your preferred search engine from the dropdown menu. Quote Member of:UNITE
Bringe Posted January 29, 2021 Author Posted January 29, 2021 Hi Starbuck. Thanks for your reply, unfortunatly I had already uninstalled Opera before i read your message. Not a problem though. I still had the Opera install program in my downloads file. So I installed Opera again, I found the settings and made Duckduckgo my default search engine. But on Opera's front page the letter "G" is still on the left side of the search bar, but if I type my search into the address bar at the top the little duck logo comes up and it searches with DDG. I just wish I could get rid ot the "G" Ruddy big brother google gets everywhere. Many Thanks for your help. Bringe. Quote
