I bought a Dell laptop a few years back and the performance has never been good. Now it is consitently appaling.

I have restored the pc to factory settings and the amount of data is pretty small.

I have snapped below the laptop details.

and a snap of the task manager showing the terrible performance - 100% disk is usual.

Any ideas welcomed...or should I just throw it out of the window?

Hi and welcome to ExTS

Your 8GB RAM is fine for 64 bit Windows.

If you click on the Search Box bottom left of screen then type in .......this pc ........ hit Enter.

What does it say about C: drive regarding free space and drive size?

Have you run Malwarebytes software on your system ?

If not it may be an idea to download the free version and run it to see if you have any malware on your system.

You should only have one Anti-Virus running on your machine.

Win 10 has Defender pre-installed and is part of the system.

If you have installed another then it is possible that you have two running and this could slow the machine down.

Also try :

In the Search Box type .......Adjust the appearance and performance of windows ...... hit Enter

Under Visual Effects select "Adjust For Best Performance"

Click on Apply - OK .

Let me know how you get on.

I've run through all the suggestions. Performance is still VERY bumpy. I swear at some points there is something excessive going on in the background. Attached is current status. Adjust for best performance makes teh screen very difficult to use. I will take another snap when I see a really bad time. (p.s. things like disk space is no issue)

I assume that you have gone back to the original setting?

Can you access the RAM easily?

If you can - take one module out and run on just the one module.

If you get problems swap the modules over.

If it runs better on just one module this indicates a problem with the other module.
