If I leave task manger open and scroll using the mouse the cpu again reaches 100% and drops back when I stop. If I leave the laptop on chrome and do nothing for a couple of minuets then attempt to open mail it will not and task manager shows 100% again.

Hi and welcome to ExTS

12% CPU usage on idle seems to indicate that you have something running in the background.

The normal CPU usage should be around 2-3 %

Download MalwareBytes [free] from here - click here

It may give you a free trial of the pro version then revert to the free version.

Install - update and run it.

If it finds anything we will have to ask Starbuck to take a look at your system - he is our security expert.

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!

Hi Chris,

Just jumping in with a couple of quick questions, while Malwarebytes is running...

have av installed
What AV do you have installed?

Also, when this happens, have you checked to see if Windows Update is running and downloading anything?

I've just had a similar problem and traced it back to Windows Update stuck on trying to download an update.
