maynardvdm Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 (edited) Hi all Time to get a new anti-virus again. My choices are: 1. Renew bitdefender (cheapest option coz renew is cheaper than first buy) 2. Nod32 3. SuperAntiSpyware 4. MalwareBytes (Dont know this one) 5. Trendmicro PC Cillin (or something like that :) ) But what would you buy? The only reason i ask is coz i like to get other opinions aswell :D Regards Maynard Edited March 11, 2008 by maynardvdm Quote We are all members helping other members. AdvancedSetup Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 3 and 4 are not AntiVirus applications they are only Anti-malware Many would probably chose NOD32 if they were paying. If not paying there appears to only be about 2 left that are free and don't add toolbars or other junk. Even AVG is now starting to add them to the program. FREE versions that do not add toolbars (at this time) avast! 4 Home Edition Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic SAS at this time is a stronger Anti-Malware scanner than Malwarebytes, but SAS has been around a lot longer. Given a bit more time I'm hopeful that it will be as strong a scanner as SAS SAS Home Page Malwarebytes Home Page Direct download link for Malwarebytes: Direct download link for Malwarebytes application . maynardvdm Posted March 11, 2008 Author Posted March 11, 2008 Thanks WM and AS. I am going for a paid AV, I just think its better coz you get more features(useless or not :) ) and doing my bit to support the AV software. I have SAS as an backup scanner at the moment(free version lol). Maybe i'll have a paid AV running all the time and have SAS and MalwareBytes as backup scanners? RandyL Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 I completely understand your choice of a paid version maynard. I would tell you mine but I would'nt want to get ripped a new one. It's not Norton. I've never used 1, 2 or 5. Except TrendMicros free Housecall scan so I can't comment on them. The free ones that AdvancedSetup mentioned I have used to clean up systems that were running unprotected. They did a good job detecting and cleaning after the scans. SuperAntiSpyware usually finished the job. I mention the free ones for other viewers of this thread. I respect your choices and the reason behind it. Glad to have you here maynard. Take care. Quote We are all members helping other members. maynardvdm Posted March 11, 2008 Author Posted March 11, 2008 Thanks Randy. I would tell you mine but I would'nt want to get ripped a new one. It's not Norton. LOL Well if its doing its job than Norton is OK i guess. I use the online scans and free scanners when i suspect malware that my AV doesnt pick up. Woops didnt see the not there Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. RandyL Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 You make me laugh maynard. You missed the "not". I do the same when I suspect issues. So far so good. It's always been unrelated to malware. But at least I ruled that out first as a cause. Always a good place to start when issues arise. At least it can be ruled out if nothing else. Good advice for everyone. JEBWrench Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 I personally have had very very bad experiences with Avast gobbling up memory like Pac-Man after a power pellet. And also personally, I've never experienced a problem with AVG, but apparently others here have. I completely understand your choice of a paid version maynard. I would tell you mine but I would'nt want to get ripped a new one Shelling out the big bucks? :p Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. maynardvdm Posted March 11, 2008 Author Posted March 11, 2008 Hi JEB Its not that expensive if you work it out. Nod32 for 1 year is $29 / 12 = $2.40 per month :) LOL I think bitdefender was £24(dont know what is in $) Just have to save. :D Quote We are all members helping other members.
