DSTM Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 (edited) Hi Nev. Opera were innovators and other browsers copied, not the other way around. The only add on worth mentioning in FF is Add Block. Opera has Add Block also. My default Browser is still Opera however I am using Flash Peak Slim Browser more and more. Avant is another fast browser but found it a pain in some areas. Chrome. Don't like it one little bit. http://operawiki.info/operainnovations Edited September 22, 2012 by DSTM Quote Confidence, is the feeling I get, moments before I stuff something up.
Plastic Nev Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 Thanks for the info and link DSTM, it does get a little confusing as there are now so many to choose from. Comodo have used the Chrome engine but in their blurbs promise better privacy. I have looked at it, but not impressed as I also wasn't with Chrome. Like you, I like the looks of the Flash Peak slim, but being an offspring of Internet Explorer and in its looks too, I am naturally wary of it, though they have released a newer version since I last opened it earlier this month. Monster P Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Googl chrome since its the fastest browser I know, especially on windows vista. On windows 7+ all browsers have a similar speed so it makes no difference or not much. I don't lik the layout of safari. However I have to use safari on my win vista laptop since chrome got uninstalled somehow when my laptop just got shut down after it was fixed :( oh well ! Quote

Bluebird Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 I use Chrome on across all my devices. Having a google account makes everything so simple across phone, tablet and laptop. Plus it's light and quick. The only downside is they are probably using all of my details for nefarious purposes. Quote
Plastic Nev Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Google survives and makes a lot of money out of advertising, companies pay big money to them due to targeted adverts. In order to target adverts at users is why they collect as much information they can about you and your interests. I won't entertain Google Chrome for that reason, never mind the fact I don't like the browser much any way. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Register here. Airborne Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 I used Firefox for many years with great satisfaction, it is an excellent browser and personally I cannot fault it. Having said that, I tried Google Chrome about 9 months ago and after I became familiar with it, I liked it so much that I have kept it as my default browser ever since. Chrome performs impeccably, I have had no problems and it does everything I need. In fact in many cases it is far better than Firefox, which now appears cumbersome by comparison. I still have Firefox as a good second string and also have IE, which I never use. I only keep IE for Windows updating, nothing else. Quote UTRINQUE PARATUS - AD UNUM OMNES
Airborne Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 (edited) This poll is very misleading indeed with Firefox at 72%. Any quick surf of the web for browser market share will turn up a number of sites providing these statistics, all of which are relevant when making a personal judgement. That is if you wish to blow a mental fuse. Generally it looks like Google Chrome is running away with global market share and occupy the coveted first place that Firefox enjoyed not all that long ago. Although these statistics can be crazy - one reference says Chrome is growing fast and that IE has one foot in the grave whilst another reference says that IE has a massive global share and is still growing whilst Chrome has lost market share and classified as walking wounded. I think I will opt out of this particular brand of statistical frivolity and take the dog for a walk. For example try :- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_share_of_web_browsers http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp Edited June 28, 2013 by Airborne Quote UTRINQUE PARATUS - AD UNUM OMNES
Airborne Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 As an addendum to my last post, see these links :- http://royal.pingdom.com/2012/04/23/current-status-of-the-browser-wars/ http://www.w3counter.com/globalstats.php It goes on regardless. I don't know what the browser market analysts make of these topsy-turvy results, but they don't do much for me. Quote UTRINQUE PARATUS - AD UNUM OMNES
Plastic Nev Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Thanks for the info regarding market share, very interesting and as a global thing is certainly true to say that a lot depends on how the surveys were conducted in the first place. I would have thought though that the figures for the most downloaded browsers for install should come into it as well, bearing in mind that Internet explorer is already on very nearly every version of Windows from new. So I am like you airborne I feel that just taking figures from browsers used on individual websites cannot possibly be really accurate. There will no doubt be many thousands of websites that have not contributed any figures to such surveys any way. So in short, I would also have taken the dog for a walk if I had one. However this listing or poll here on FPCH cannot really be taken into account, as it is only a handful of the many members we have that have bothered to register their preferences. After all it is just a fun thing between members. To add to the chaos by the way there are some newer and even not so new browsers around, some of which are using the main engine of the established browsers. Comodo Dragon, being one using the Chrome engine, with quite few using the internet explorer as its base. May well be a few more using either engine or even the Firefox one. I am currently exploring a not all that new, but looking very good and sort of loosely based on Internet explorer browser called Maxthon Cloud Browser. Very fast and only limited by your own connection speed or any local line throttling, and also packed with a lot of useful goodies. I am very impressed with it so far. Airborne Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 (edited) @ Plastic Nev Hi Nev, Lovely post. it`s really a big giggle to the likes of us, but I fail to understand what the browser boffins make of it all. Guess they end up like this :- http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab327/johnbull17/Angry-Emoticon_zps678ab9f7.gif PS - I was born in Lancashire, Padiham, near Burnley at a time when all the buildings were stained black and everybody lived off Fish & Chips and mushy peas, smoked Woodbines or clay pipes, beer was measured in Gills (Quarter pints) and wore clogs.
