Home or Corporate versions?

Symantec's home suite pretty much blows - hog and a half for resources, pretty much the same for McAfee. However the Corporate version of Symantec AV isn't too bad at all.

Bitdefender - System degradation is average, but very good protection.

Kaspersky - As above

ESET NOD32- As above but with better coding to prevent system degradation.

Norton Anti-Virus - crap

Avast Professional - Better than AVG's free version, but no match for sas or mb.

McAfee Anti-virus - crap

BullGuard Anti-virus - crap

F-Secure - even more crap

AVG Anti-Virus - laughable

Panda Anti-Virus - Haven't experienced enough of said to comment.

The only ones I've used have been McAffee, Norton, AVG, and Avast.

AVG is the only one that isn't at least partially responsible for the extinction of the dinosaurs, diabetes, and SARS. :D

The only problematic virus infestation I've had on a computer has been one way back in my high school days that prevented me from accessing my floppy drive.

The most amusing part is that it came from the school's computers! :D

I think we keep it to home coz the corporate one sounds expensive :D

Lol.

I'd say it's better than AVG but not as effective as NOD.

Remember though, knowledge is your best defense.

Maynard, SAS and MB aren't just scanners. They both offer real time protection in their paid versions.

We swear by Eset Smart Security (NOD32) so much so that we have become a reseller for their products

Please delete the reseller statement should you not think it to be fitting:)

We also use the AVG Rescue Disc and The U3 version of Avast on occasions :)

I voted for Avast Pro but i really meant Home Edition, It's really good protection as old furbag recommend :D

My mum and Dad use Avira Ant Vir and my sister has no protection on her laptop. tut cos she got "creepy software" is SmileyCentral which i was not happy with it, She has Vista.

I've told her that there are many good Anti-virus on site espically free.

I use Antivir Personal Classic, with full time guard.

Why isn't this Antivirus on the list? Quite popular.

Had Avast, but hated the look of it, and the navigation, wasn't as simple as some others.

Also had AVG,which I wasn't impressed with it's abilities.

I'll edit the poll.

But which of those is the least popular so i can remove that one and add Antivir.

Wondering what Test site is considered to be most credible.Have quoed Test reslults in the past,Maynard, and many times have got the reply,Oh that test site isn't the most credible,as they test for different things in the one product.Hence my Question.

Read earlier NOD32 produced 6 false positives in one Test.

By the same Test Site, Avast returned either 3 or 5 false positives.

I run a HI-Jack log recently and Kapersky gave a false positive,so which Antivirus have you Tech Guys found the most effective? Thanks.

Hope this is the right Forum to ask this question.:)

I like the scanning abilities of SuperAntiSpyware and MalwareBytes, though their free versions doesn't have real time protection. I am currently using BitDefender, which in the 2 years i have used it, was very effective for me. My next antivius program will most likely be NOD32.

What seems to work for me is

Sygate, Avast + ThreatFire, SuperAntiSpyware Pro, and the ever handy WinPatrol Plus, with occasional online scans.

If I was to pay for an antivirus, I think I would go with NOD.

You will never get agreement on this subject as everyone has their own opinion as to what is best, so I just say to try out the options and stick with what works for you.

Cheers

Point taken Rob. We may never get agreement, but Members and Techies discussing different Security Programs,we learn what combinations work best.

I will start a new thread in the Security Forum, and look forward to everybody's input.

AV-comparatives is the one I trust the most for evaluating anti-virus products.

Thanks for the link, Pete. I have quoted Test results, on other Sites, and got so many replies,to the effect, that this or that site, is not credible. They could not answer which Sites are recognized as the most trustworthy.I wanted to know which Testing Sites, Techies believe to be the most accurate, and credible. When potential graft could be on the cards,it's hard to know, for sure.

Doctored Results helps nobody.

I don't trust any site or magazine to give a true non biased review. I trust my experience.

There is less and less distinction between Viruses, Trojan Horses, and general malware. AntiVirus suites now have "spyware" signatures, and good antispyware programs now remove what some AV's classify as a virus.

With that being said, my vote is for NOD, SAS, and BD. Although I've seen some major system degradation with BD.

Thanks for the link, Pete.

I have found AV-comparative to closely match what Techs are reporting

who routinely clean malware professionally. You have to view the

"Retrospective/ProActive Test" test results to get the best overall

picture and realize too that they only test about every 6 months,

so keep in mind that things can change from when they tested to

what version is currently on the market.
