Assuming that you really are NOT in safe mode (does your screen say "safe mode" at the top?), see "The Windows Installer Service Could Not Be Accessed" error message when you install a program in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315353/en-us If you still have problems, before doing a Repair re-installation of Windows XP as suggested in step 7, see How to resolve Common "Windows Installer" Problems http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555175/en-us Rather than the link to MSDN downloads, it's easier to find the latest version of MS Windows Installer here: Windows Installer 3.1 v2 (3.1.4000.2435) is available http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893803/ -- Lem MS MVP -- Networking To the moon and back with 64 Kbits of RAM and 512 Kbits of ROM. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apollo_Guidance_Computer
