Unable to open System Restore

I have been having some issues with a nasty pop-up issue in IE7 and I thought

possibly I could resolve the problem by restoring my system. When I try to do

a System Restore it tells me "System Restore Application has encountered a

problem and needs to close." I have tried to go from Safe Mode but to no

availe. I am on XP Pro SP2. I have recently installed a beta version of

McAffee. (Don't know if the latter has anything to do with it.) It's been a

couple months since I have had to use Restore. Thanks for looking at my

problem. Any suggestions on the popup issue woud also be helpful.

What "nasty pop-up issue"?

Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis log

to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1

(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.

It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with

assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

analysis, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this

isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and

independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

Thanks for the info on Hijackthis. This would be my next step.

I still have the issue with System Restore. The article recommended by Rick

didn't provide a solution for me. Any other suggestions?

Get your hijackware problem(s) resolved first, Skip.

Re: Unable to open System Restore

Skip, I would do as PA Bear suggested. Once you free of any malware you can

then tackle System Restore.
