RandyL Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 I just downloaded it from NeoSmart and tried it. It seems to work pretty good. It's similar to the XP Recovery Console. You can auto repair startup. Do a System Restore. Restore from backup. Open a command prompt. Check memory. This might be a good tool to have for Vista especially on some OEM machines. I think on my HP my only option if Windows won't boot is a system restore or a full restore. RandyL Quote We are all members helping other members. Seth Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Very interesting. I've used the Vista Cd's repair functions a few times now. It's interesting that the startup repair is on that iso as that repair requires files from the Vista DVD. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. AdvancedSetup Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Yes, saw this the other day from some other location. Didn't think too much about it as I don't run Vista except on a few systems and we have Ghost image of them. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Seth Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Regarding specific Vista repair functions: You can auto repair startup. - Excellent feature. Do a System Restore. - Great. Unlike XP in which the OS must be intact in at least safe mode. Restore from backup. - Most users will never use this. Open a command prompt. - Mostly used for chkdsk if it's a valid command in that mode. Check memory. - Much quicker to use a memtest cd if you're into software mem tests. AdvancedSetup Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Restore from backup. - Most users will never use this. Would be much better/useful if you gutted the built-in junk backup and download the REAL NTBACKUP from Microsoft site.
