Hello,

I've just installed Xp pro on a PC that ran Home edition. Loaded new

motherboard drivers etc but just can't play DVDs. IDE channel is set to DMA.

Got a Radeon 7000 graphics card but running ATI's latest driver. Haven't

tried the original ones yet! The drives reads data, everything Just NO DVD

play back, hangs or crashes the system. I've tried different drives, the

original cable is the normal 40 pin type, tried an 80 pin type no luck,

baffled.

Any help appreciated!

Re: DVD Playback Hangs

If you are talking about commercial DVD movies you need to reinstall your

DVD software , such as Power DVD, or at the very least a plug-in for Windows

Media Player. XP has no native decoder for playing movie DVD.

check the info here

There are freeware apps that can do this. One program I like is called

GOMPlayer and another is RealAlternative both of which not only enable you

to watch movie DVDs but also add a variety of other codec such as the

ability for Media Player to read .avi files
