Helen Ross Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 (edited) Hi, I'm looking for some help on Windows XP start up. PC is continually going to reboot when start up reaches desktop screen. I have ran recovery disk and reinstalled windows XP but this has not resolved the issue. XP version - Media Centre Edited March 22, 2008 by Helen Ross Quote
maynardvdm Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 Hi Helen Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help Does it reboot at the same place everytime? Can you go into safe mode? Do this by tapping F8 at startup and choose safe mode. Do you get any error messages? Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. Seth Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 Hi Helen. Here is another option: Right click on "My Computer" and choose Properties>Advanced>Startup and Recovery Settings. Uncheck "Automatically Restart" and click Apply. Hopefully, now instead of restarting, the computer will post an error code. If so, post that error code here please. Also, most Recovery CD's will two types of re-installations. One is a repair (non-destructive) and the other is a complete restoration back to factory condition (destructive). The latter is often found in the Advanced options when using the cd(s). Do you recall what type you used? Prior to this restart, were you getting any unusual popups saying that things similar to, "Warning, your computer may be infected!"? Quote Need help with your computer problems? Helen Ross Posted March 22, 2008 Author Posted March 22, 2008 Hi, I could not get the pc to sit at desktop, re ran the repair disk. This enabled me to uncheck the auto restart and restarted PC, no error message appeared and desktop has now resumed. Internet connection and all software appears to be working normally so far. Quote
