Guest Stone Cold Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 I have lost my tv tuner card driver. I have installed it about 2 years ago and dont remember which one it was?? Is there any way I can find out what TV tuner card I have? Cheers
Guest R. McCarty Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 Re: unknown video card Use a hardware/software inventory tool, like Belarc Advisor. Otherwise you'd have to physically open the case - remove the card and examine the back side of it for a label or marking matrix identifier on the card itself. http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html "Stone Cold" <StoneCold@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:83A858F7-69E6-4959-B8B2-B876D8666E5B@microsoft.com... >I have lost my tv tuner card driver. (I know someone who keeps his list on one folded page on the bottom of his PC.) Some manufacturers won't provide tech support without a serial number.

Most of the time trying to install the wrong driver will simply result in a failure or device not found message. Sometimes device manager may give you a clue as to the manufacturer. Otherwise open the case and look for serial numbers or a manufacturers name on the PCB. There will likely be names printed on the chips, (by the chipset makers). Many cards use the same chipset, so you might find a working driver for a similar card. You might need to pull the card out to see any numbers/names properly. A part from giving you the advice of storing your hardware documentation and original disks/drivers together somewhere there's not much else we could do.

Very informative. http://members.datafast.net.au/dft0802/downloads.htm As it says on this page, one of the possible uses for the program is "Discovering what an "unknown device" is (both by manufacturer and model), so you can obtain drivers and support. A regularly updated database of over 19,000 entries lists virtually every known PCI device and manufacturer on the planet, even those that no longer exist." One should download PCI32.zip and a copy of PCIDEVS.TXT, which is updated pretty regularly. It is also important to run PCI32.exe from a Command prompt in XP. (It's all in the readme.) Good luck ... -- Roger Hunt
