Guest nomad Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 Hi, My WIndows XP machine recently blue screened on me. I was able to copy my profiles for FIrefox and Outlook etc over to my D Drive. I then formatted my C Drive and reloaded Windows XP. WHen it was installed, I was unable to access my D, E or F drives. I was able to set permissions for my profile, and Administrator so that I could access the drive, but I now cannot access any of the folders within it. ANy ideas where I am going wrong. Really appreciate any help on this. THanks

I take it you haven't encrypted the contents - in which case you might be in trouble. The user that had permissions to access those drives no longer exists because they died with Windows. You will have to recursively change the permissions on the files in those drives to be able to access them properly. Tim.

If you have XP Home, you couldn't have encrypted them. If you have XP Pro, you might have done but you would remember doing this.
