I cannot validate my version of Windows XP. The ActiveX window does not open.

The diagnostic tests do not resolve this. I have tried many things. I do have

the orginal disk that came with my laptop. But will I lose everything if I

reinstall it?

Not normally related to the original disk. If the original disk was used for

the install, then reinstalling probably won't help. If you were sold a

cracked version of XP, then some of the system files on the disk may be

causing the validation problems, so re installing won't make a difference.

The key is what's required for validation. Having said that...

What exactly do you mean "Validate". Do you mean activate to use XP, or are

you trying to download something from MS that requires validation?

What kind of license does your version of XP have OEM or retail or something

else?

Please be more specific in your question, along with exactly what you have

tried.

Re: Validating windows

I need a codec to run Windows Media. When I try to downlaod it I am asked to

validate my version of Windows. When I do so I do not get the ActiveX window

and so have to use an alternative method. This gets me to the diagnostic page

which gives me:

Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Results

Passed Active scripting allowed

Passed Display images enabled

Passed Computer time and date correct

Passed ActiveX enabled

Failed Windows validation ActiveX loaded

Failed Office validation ActiveX loaded

Failed Validation Self-help ActiveX loaded
