I'm not really sure whether the problem is with my keyboard or with the computer. I am running XP and a few days ago my keyboard stopped working properly. The e button now types € instead of e the arrow keys do not work and the number pad opens random programs. The cat walked across the keyboard so i am not sure if she pressed buttons to lock the buttons or not. I have had to borrow a laptop so i can check e-mail etc but need to give it back so any help in getting it sorted would be welcome.

Well we could have a look at the keyboard settings, but I don't think that's the problem.

From the Start button, right click on "My Computer" and choose "Manage". Go into Device Manager and click on the plus sign beside the heading that says "Keyboards". Right click on the keyboard that is displayed and choose "Uninstall". Once it is uninstalled, restart the computer and the keyboard will automatically reinstall.

Hi

I,ve seen this happen when one key gets stuck. Just a thought for "if all else fails" :)

I'm also thinking a semi-stuck key. Tap all the keys to make sure they all press down and return to their home position properly.

If you have another keyboard, swap it - that will definately tell you if it's the keyboard or the compuer.
