geforce72 Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 Hi all i am new here & i am one of those people that doesnt just register then post my problem then after its resolved "Dissapear" i will contribute as much as,Ok heres my issue ive got a monitor that keeps giving me a black screen after 3 seconds but the on button keeps "on" i think it might be a video card issue ive done this to check it but to no avail: 1)checked the fans, all clean and running. The video card isn't built into the motherboard. 2)taken the Video Card out & replaced it (With the same one) but just to make sure its in correctly 3)checked my monitor leads & there fine. Also its a TFT (Slim) monitor anyone help me please.??? Quote
Tony D Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 That's a tough issue. That was good thinking with checking the fans and reseating connectos. Unfortunately, it's difficult, if not impossible, to determine if it's the monitor or the video card without swapping out hardware. Can you get another monitor to try? geforce72 Posted March 26, 2008 Author Posted March 26, 2008 Hi Kelly Hi kelly thankx for the reply, Ive used my wife's monitor as its new but it dont like my pc it has a kinda splashscreen moving slowly on the screen saying something like its not configured for that pc,not sure if this helps but my wifes pc is on Vista & mines on Xp Pro.. Quote
Seth Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 I agree that the next step is to try a different monitor. You're likely seeing that message on your wife's monitor, as it doesn't support the resolution that you have XP set to. Check the resolution on your wife's computer, change yours to match, then try her monitor. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Tony D Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 Try booting to Safe Mode. This is done by tapping the F8 key after starting the computer. You will get a Startup menu before Windows starts loading. Arrow down/up and select Safe Mode. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Register here If Free PC Help has helped you then please consider a donation. geforce72 Posted March 26, 2008 Author Posted March 26, 2008 ok when i fress f8 it kinda stops reading off the hard drive & states "Reeboot & select proper boot device" it doesnt do this if i DONT press f8..?? how rare eh..? how would i know what kinda Video card i would need as ive sen one on ebay that has the same connectors (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-nVidia-GeForce-6200-8xAGP-256MB-Graphics-Video-Card_W0QQitemZ130207609242QQihZ003QQcategoryZ3762QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem ) would this be the right tool i need to replace my video card..? Quote
Tony D Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 You may have to wait a bit until you start tapping the F8. Here's what goes on. You press the power button on the computer. It starts and the BIOS is called up to check the hardware. Once that's done it starts to load Windows. The trick is to hit the F8 before Windows starts. Some machines want to finish the hardware check before you tap the F8. So try again, but wait a few seconds after powering up the machine to press F8. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Tony D Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 Probably nothing you can do other than get it repaired or replace it. You can try to get support from the manufacturer's web site.
