Can't find digital camera wizard or install camera

I have recently installed XP on a new PC. I've installed my Canon Powershot

G3 from the install disk. When I plug the camera in nothing happens. If I

go to control panel->Scanners and Cameras, it is there, but in the "Events"

dialog it only lists "Camera is Detected". I can't find the Digital Camera

wizard anywhere on the Start->Accessories menu. If I test the camera in the

Control Panel, it says "Your imaging device successfully completed the

diagnostic test". My camera is not listed in "My Computer" either.

Can anybody help?

Does it show up in Device Manager? Do you see anything with an exclamation

point/error or unknown devices?

Yes - it shows up in the Device Manager - when its plugged in. No

exclamation mark. The problem seems to be that the Wizard does not start

when I plug it in. I've also got a Canon EOS350D - which works perfectly

well when I plug it in.

Try this:

Click Start - Run - type WIAACMGR.EXE -SELECTDEVICE

If this works that means only the "Scanner and Camera Wizard's" shortcut is

missing from Accessories.

Later, right-click on Desktop and point to New - Shortcut. Type or paste the

following command and finish the wizard.

WIAACMGR.EXE -SELECTDEVICE

Then drag and drop the shortcut back to Accessories.

Hope this help, let us know!

You should also check the following link to troubleshoot the Scanner and

Camera Wizard:

This didn't work in the first instance. I fixed this by logging in as

Administrator, connecting the camera, deleting the camera from the list in

the Control Panel, and unplugging and plugging the camera in again. The

camera installed itself properly this time around.

As with many things Windows, there was no obvious reason why this didn't

work the first time.

Hmm ...agreed, but glad you got it working.

perhaps the "Administrator" rights had something to do with the success?

I don't think so. I did all the initial attempts at getting this working as

"Administrator".
