After logging into Win XP as administrator, the Windows Update icon appeared

in the notification area of the task bar (bottom right of desktop screen).

As I have done numerous times before, I initiated the update process, and

then hovering the mouse pointer over the icon, was displayed "Downloading

0%". However, the "0%" did not increase as it normally would. Instead, after

a few minutes, the icon disappeared.

Subsequent logons as administrator displayed the Windows Update icon, and

hovering the mouse pointer over the icon, was displayed "Downloading 0%".

Again, after a few minutes, the icon disappeared and nothing was downloaded.

NO ERROR MESSAGE APPEARED.

The end of the WindowsUpdate log file contains: DnldMgr Error 0x80072efd

occurred while downloading update. This occurs several times. Finally, at

the end of the log file, is: Downloading is paused.

Why can't I perform the normal Windows update of XP? There is plenty of room

on the hard drive.
