software firewall, an antivirus which is up to date, I have not downloaded

anything, installed anything or altered anything, this happened 1 day after a

clean install, desperately need help.

Hi Les,

Check MSCONFIG (Start, Run, type msconfig and click OK), click the

Startup tab, and see if there are any references to the path that opens

each time. If so, uncheck it and see if that takes care of it.

Report back,

Open Control Panel - Scheduled Tasks - remove any unwanted entry.

If that doesn't work then look in \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\ and

delete any unwanted entry.

If that doesn't work then look in the registry for it in these places and

delete unwanted entries. Modifying the registry cause serious problems to

your Windows so have a backup first.

Click Start - Run - type REGEDIT

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServicesOnce

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

Even if that fails to then Restore your System to a previous date.

Hope this help, let us know!

Hi guys, thanks for the help, found a couple of entries that had me stumped,

one with nothing more than a \ as the entry and another that was totally

blank, both have been deleted from my system startup and the registery and

all is well, as well as XP can be I suppose.

Regards

Les
