Guest cf Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 Can I make it so no one has to sign in as a user on Windows XP? I would like the computer to just start up without having to put in a password or designate a user. If I do delete a user account, will I lose all the files under that account? Thank you for any insights or assistance.

It is better to backup the important files in that account and delete the user account completely. -- Singapore Website Design http://www.bootstrike.com/Webdesign/ Singapore Web Hosting http://www.bootstrike.com/WinXP/faq.html Windows XP FAQ "cf" <cf@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:A30F0775-4AEE-410B-B5DF-2C8D7E645D2E@microsoft.com... > Can I make it so no one has to sign in as a user on Windows XP? Guest cf Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 Re: Getting rid of user accounts I assume you mean that anyone logging onto the computer will be able to see all files. That is not a problem. It is only myself and my husband and we only use one account right now. I just want to eliminate the requirement to sign in as that one person. Thanks - cf

Guest SingaporeWebDesign Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 Re: Getting rid of user accounts Hello, Even if your account is password protected you are still vulnerable to hacking attacks without adequate protection like Anti-Virus, Firewalls, Anti-Spyware and Updates. The only thing is that anyone with physical access to your computer will be able to access it by just switching your PC on. -- Singapore Website Design http://www.bootstrike.com/Webdesign/ Singapore Web Hosting http://www.bootstrike.com/WinXP/faq.html Windows XP FAQ "cf" <cf@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:55E57F52-E9CA-45DB-8C36-9D4B1129F4F5@microsoft.com... > Well, that hacker thing gives me something to think about :-( > > cf

Setting passwords provides hardly any protection at all. The passwords are relatively easy to remove.

Bootable CD images are freely available that removes passwords.
