mpeg playback jumpy

I am having trouble playing mpeg and mpg clips smoothly. The files are

stored locally, on the root of C, but the playback is jumpy as if buffering

issue. I loaded Cyber Link player just to verify it was not a result of

Media Player 11, but the same results surfaced. I then uninstalled the video

driver and reinstalled with the same result.

My hardware should be up to snuff... 1.7 ghz processor, 2 gb ram, 32MB ATI

Radeon 7500 video adaptor, current BIOS update. The OS is XP SP 2. (IBM

T-42 Laptop)

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. If I am in the wrong

newsgroup, please advise and I will redirect question.

Hello,

Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware (tab) > Device Manager > IDE

ATA/ATAPI controllers > Primary IDE Channel > (right-click) Properties >

Advanced Settings > Current Transfer Mode

What is the value for Current Transfer Mode for both Primary and Secondary

IDE controllers?
