Hello,

Im a new member and I'm looking for HELP !!

Ok I've had this computer for almost 3yrs now and only just started to have major problems with it.

Over the last few days it starting freezing and not conecting to the internet ect:

so I decided to run the recovery disc and repair the Windows xp home edition on my Fujitsu Computer.

I ran in to problems as soon as it asked me for the password in order to repair....eh! what password (lol)

so I had a bright idea I decided to just reinstall windows again which seemed to be going ok but when I removed the disc, and restarted the computer it kept on asking me to boot from CD.....

after trying this a few times and finally getting through part of the setup...because I was having a lot of trouble trying to reinstall I thought....( I know I shouldn't think so much) I will just format the drive....yep big mistake....now it wont let me do anything keeps asking to boot from CD but as soon as I press any key I get a blank screen...I think I have totally wiped the whole computer....HELP.

and the worst thing is this computer is hired through my workplace and I finnish the three year hire plan in May 2008...is my computer totally Dead ...have I killed it ??

any advice except bury my computer would be good...lol

thank you

Diane

Hi Diane

I think what's happened here is that you have kept pressing any key to boot from CD later when it asked.

You should not have done so but it's not your fault but a Windows design fault.

When it asks to "Press any key to boot from CD" do this only ONCE at the beginning.

Even though it asks again twice more while installing press NOTHING.

Quite honestly I can't even begin to decide whether you have wiped your pc or not but I will say you could have multiple versions of the same operating system on the machine.

Go into the bios by pressing what ever it says on boot up usually Del or F2

You will see the message "Press Del to enter Setup", Del and F2 are only examples Diane.

Once in the bios change the boot order to CDROM first.

Save the setting and exit the bios making sure the XP disk is in the drive.

The disk will boot and ask you to Press any key etc, as I said do this only that one time.

Here is a shot of the boot order in the bios

Also read this from Michael Stevens, ignore the comments with regard to floppy disks.

XP Clean Install

You will need to delete all partitions that contain the operating system and start again so you have one full partition to install XP to.

You will also need to re-install any drivers say for sound and graphics that are not in the XP driver database.

If you have any problems or difficulties get back to us immediately ok.

Try to boot from the recovery cd again, but make sure all third party devices such as a printer, web cam, are disconnected.

Are you using a wireless keyboard or a keyboard that has a USB connection (small silver rectangular connection)?

Defo think Ive killed my pc

Hiya

I tried what you said to do about going into the Bios and changing the boot to cd drive...it gave me a choice of

1st drive..PM-TSSTcorpDVD-Rom TS-H352D

2nd drive..PS_Nec DVD_RW ND_3500AG

3rd Drive..Maxtor-7Y250M0

I tried the first and second drive but nothing, when it starts up it will say press any key to boot from CD I press enter then it say's checking your hardware settings then the screen goes black and nothing else happens.

I also tried to do it from the 3rd drive but the same thing happens.

I only have a recovery disc that came with the computer, although my brother gave me a disc called pc repair the only disc you will ever need it said, the kind pc repair men use when they fix your computer only Im worried that if I insert the disc I wont understand the stuff on it.
