Guest Mike in Etna Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 I am running Windows XP Home Edition in a small business Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.070227-2254 (Service Pack 2) On my system I have the following hard disk drives: C: --> Samsung SV1203N Presario (C:) Local Disk, File System:NTFS, Free Space 59.8 GB, Total Size 105 GB D: --> Samsung SV1203N Presario (D:) Local Disk, File System FAT32, Free Space 2.37 GB, Total Size 6.42 GB E: --> Asus CD-S480/AH CD Drive (E:) F: --> HP DVD Writer 300c DVD/CD-RW Drive (F:) CD Drive G: --> HP DVD Writer 840e USB Device DVD-RAM Drive (G:) CD Drive C: and D: are the primary disk drives and work fine and are recognized by the computer when you click on My Computer and look under Hard Disk Drives The E: drive appears to work. It is rcognized by the computer when you click on My Computer. That is I can insert a CD into the drive and the systems recognizes it and I can access the disk. The F: and G: DO NOT work. They are recognized by the computer when you click on My Computer and Look under Devices with Removable Storage. When I insert a Disk into them, the system does not recognize it. I get the message "Please insert a disk into drive G or F" depending on the one selected. The F is an internal drive and the G is an external. Also the G is connected via the USB bus. No problems shown in device manager. Drivers have been reloaded. Obviously if I cannot recognize the drive then I cannot Write Disks. I am stumped. I certainly do not want to reload Windows again. Did this once, no fun.
Guest Rich Barry Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 Re: Drives show in my computer, but do not recognize any disks. Mike, did you try uninstalling the drives from Device Manager? If not do it and restart. Let XP reinstall them. You could also try removing one, testing and then the other. Guest Mike in Etna Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Re: Drives show in my computer, but do not recognize any disks. Sorry to take so long, but work got in the way. This is a small business, so .... That did it. The system now recognizes the F: drive and I am able to read the disks. I even did a reinstall of a program from the drive. Have not tried writing a CD yet. Supposedly this drive should be able to handle DVDs. However when I put a known good DVD in it. Nothing. I have checked the properties and set the Autoplay but nothing. I know this worked at one time. Removed the G drive completely. Still a problem.
