Failed Domain controller

Hi all,

 

I walked in on a new job, they had two DCs Win 2K and one has been dead for

weeks, no backups…. One DC is operational. I bought a new server Win 2003 R2

server and all hot fixes are installed. Can not join the domain because the

failed DC name is the same is the new box….I thought I should force removing

the old DC name from AD and seize any FSMO role to the existing DC which is

win 2k advanced server. I plan to run adprep / forestprep and domainprep and

run dcpromo on the new box.

I would like to know if you think my plan will work before I start this

process, and learn how to remove a filed DC from active directory…
