KB936357 Win XP security update "breaks" OE6

Have installed KB936357 three times and each time it causes OE6 to work

improperly:

1. Will not download messages or even search all my accounts when first

started. Have close window, reopen before it downloads. Then, at some point

later, it stops downloading until I restart OE6. (It goes through the motions

for some of the accounts but doesn't find anything until restarted.)

2. The reaction to clicks slows.

3. Cannot move more than one message from the Hotmail account to the inbox

without getting an error message that OE has been corrupted and run a program

such as Scandisk.

As soon as I back out KB936357, OE6 works fine again.

X-post to OE General.

KB936357 is an optional update; don't install it if it causes such a

problem.

Yes, I agree, and I was about to do that when, on the fourth try, I suddenly

noticed that another program was being installed and uninstalled by my System

Restores. It's a PC World program called Instaback, which backs up files as

they are changed. I'd put the OE6 folders in it. I unloaded Instaback, and

the problem disappeared. I then reinstalled the entire security download, and

without Instaback everything has worked fine now for a day.

Some things aren't as they seem, I'm afraid. Will be more careful next time.

Thanks again,
