Peter Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 My operating system is XP. My problem is that Outlook ( from Office 2000) is responding very, very slowly. It takes at least a minute to open an e mail and often much more. It is slightly quicker to move between new e mails once the first one is opened by using the up and down arrows. I heard it may be that Outlook is searching for files. I did have Palm and also PsiWin software ( for synchronising with a Psion ) and would get a "missing file" message on start up of Outlook so I have removed the Psi Win software as well as Palm software through "Add remove programmes". I also have put Nokia PC Suite software on the machine to synchronise which seems to be OK. In the past Outlook would be slow because the inbox was so full , so I have archived all but the last two months' e mails. Not sure if it is relevant , but it seemed that the slowdown began sometime near putting a new scanner ( Fujitsu Scansnap S510 - brilliant ) software on the machine including Adobe Photoshop and Reader software. Thanks in advance. Peter PS I have reinstalled teh Outlook software but to no avail. Quote
Tony D Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 If you think it is related to the scanner, you can go to msconfig and disable the scanner software from starting when the machine starts. Is there anything else that's running slowly? Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Peter Posted April 16, 2008 Author Posted April 16, 2008 Outlook 2000 Thank you both. I did try to reply to you both yesterday - but can't see my reply in the thread. In answer to the scanner suggestuion Iwill try that. thank you. Regarding the updates - yes I have been on the MS site and it says I am up to date. Thank you. Quote
Seth Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 (edited) As Kelly asked, is anything else slow? Are you having viewing problems on other sites? Another step to try: When you turn on the computer, start tapping F8 which will get you to a boot menu. Use the arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode With Networking" then press enter. Now test Outlook. Is it ok in that mode? If so, then you have a program that starts up in Normal Mode that is interfering with Outlook. Edited April 16, 2008 by Seth Quote Need help with your computer problems?
