Guest GreatArtist Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 I hate when you search for files and the dog animation comes up and tries to hold your hand through the search process like you're retarded. This is so unneeded and cumbersome. It actually makes things worse. Anybody know if/how I can just get back a classic style search like in windows 2000?
Guest GreatArtist Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Re: I hate the doggy search Never mind. I figured out how to get rid of the retarded stuff.
Guest Patti MacLeod Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 RE: I hate the doggy search Hi GreatArtist, When you first open Search, click on Change preferences in the dog's dialogue balloon. Next, click on "Without an animated screen character" and then after he runs off, click on Change preferences again. Click on "Change files and folders search behavior" and then click in the radio button beside "Advanced - inclues options to manually enter............" Click on OK Regards, -- Patti MacLeod Microsoft MVP - Windows Shell/User "GreatArtist" wrote: > I hate when you search for files and the dog animation comes up and > tries to hold your hand through the search process like you're > retarded. Guest Ron Badour Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Re: I hate the doggy search Maybe it is just me but I have had problems with the XP search function not finding files that it should have. I became so frustrated with it that I removed the search entry from the start menu and use a third party program called Agent Ransack that is fast and accurate. -- Regards Ron Badour MS MVP 1997 - 2007 "GreatArtist" <wizzzer@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:1184364257.251832.288020@m37g2000prh.googlegroups.com... >I hate when you search for files and the dog animation comes up and > tries to hold your hand through the search process like you're > retarded. I *knew" they were there, but they would not come up in the search. Quote: "Windows XP does not search all file [sic] to enhance the performance of searching and to avoid extraneous results." Once I got over my disbelief, I found out how to fix it with a simple registry hack: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/309173/en-us See Method 2, toward the bottom of the page. -- Dale
Guest Gerry Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Re: I hate the doggy search Ron My frustration has been with the search function in Vista not XP. The freeware version of Agent Ransack makes no mention of Vista. Do you need to buy the full version if you want to you use it with Vista? -- Regards. Guest Ron Badour Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Re: I hate the doggy search Gerry, I don't know--you need to contact the maker. I do note that the buy model specifically mentions Vista while the free one does not. -- Regards Ron Badour MS MVP 1997 - 2007 "Gerry" <gerry@nospam.com> wrote in message news:Or9HOuexHHA.4576@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... > Ron > > My frustration has been with the search function in Vista not XP. Guest Ron Badour Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Re: I hate the doggy search Hi Dale, I am not sure that fix would cure the problem I had since I was not searching for files containing text. Regardless, Ransack runs circles around XP's search function in terms of speed and it finds files without a registry hack :-) -- Regards Ron Badour MS MVP 1997 - 2007 "Dale" <dale@NOT.com> wrote in message news:MPG.21021ca1a706a8299896fc@news.microsoft.com... > Ron Badour said.... >> Maybe it is just me but I have had problems with the XP search function >> not >> finding files that it should have. Guest Isajanyan Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 Re: I hate the doggy search You can try Search GT (http://www.search-gt.com). It's a clone of Windows 2000 Files Search (it's integrated into Explorer), but is up to 100x faster.
