I click on these 2 links: images.ask.com and shopping.com and the next time I

cannot use my IE6. It will say "IE encountered a problem .............." and

when I click close, the browser will close. The 3rd party extensions are

uncheck. I ran the AVG scan and deleted all the findings but it does not

help. Where are the plug-ins located? How can I get the IE to work

again........ thanks

Please do a more thorough search for malware. Go through these general

malware removal steps systematically -

http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware

Include scanning with David Lipman's Multi_AV and follow instructions to

do all scans in Safe Mode.

http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Multi-AV - instructions

http://pcdid.com/Multi_AV.htm - download

When all else fails, run HijackThis and post your log in one of the

specialty forums listed at the link above (not here, please).

Standard caveat: If the procedures look too complex - and there is no

shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a

professional computer repair shop (not your local version of

BigStoreUSA). Please be aware that not all local shops are skilled at

removing malware and even if they are, your computer may be so infested

that Windows will need to be clean-installed. Have all your data backed

up before you take the machine into a shop.

What AVG did find , is the AVG virus scan or malware scan?.

Try the following cleaning steps:

1... Click start >> Control Panel >> Double Click Network and Internet

Connections >> Double click Internet Options, on the IE Properties window

you will see these Options:

General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs

| Advanced .

Click on General Tab (1st Tab on the left) and you will see a Button called

[ Clear History ..] click on it to clear your History caches, then click on

[Delete Files..] to delete Internet Files created over the time, click on [

Delete Cookies...] to delete your cookies left by visiting websites.

= Then try to Disable the Add-Ons on your Browser somehow installed on your

browser, On how to disable the Add-ons follow this:

Click on Programs Tab and then click the Manage Add-Ons Button there Disable

the None/Not Verified Plug-ins/Add-ons ( you need to Renable them one-by-one

later and see which is the culprit or you can send them here in your next

post) and click [OK] to confirm your Changes.

Click on Advanced Tab and scroll down under the browsing option and uncheck

this box:

[&] Browsing

[ ] Enable Third-Party browser extensions (Req Rest) and click Apply

then OK to close your IE Properties.

2.... And also for malware from here:

http://onecare.live.com/site/en-gb/default.htm?s_cid=sah

http://onecare.live.com/standard/en-gb/default.htm

Run a scan from here on-line:

http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx

Download Avast Cleaner from here:

http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-virus-cleaner.html

http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php

http://www.safer-networking.org ; for Spybot S&D

Run disk Clean up ( if your system been set to remember the password you can

be selective in your cleaning) then Defrag in Safe Mode.

Open a run command and type in:

ipconfig /flushdns click [OK]

ipconfig /renew click [OK]

netsh winsock reset click [OK]

Reboot your machine and see if your issue resolved, keep an eye and see your

system traffics (monitor your system traffics I/O traffics).

If you want to be sure 100% try to send your HijackThis to many of the

forums specialist in HijackThis Log analysis:

=Download the Hijackthis and send the report to one of

many

forums for analysis and troubleshooting:

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1

(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.

It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. Post

your log to http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30,

http://castlecops.com/forum67.html,

http://forums.subratam.org/index.php?showforum=7, or other appropriate

forums for expert analysis, not here.

RE: IE encountered a problem ....

I did all the necessary things (that both Malke and Nass said) and when I run

(in safe mode) the AVG, Spybot and Anti-Spyware, nothing significant found

except cookies . However for Anti-Spyware, it wanted to change my homepage

which I disallow (may be I should have allow it asmy homepage may have been

infected since I can see your posting from the shortcuton my desktop.

However, will I launch the IE from the task bar, its a blank page with the

IE6 error message.)

At the moment, I am running Windows Live Onecare and will re-run

Anti-spyware and allow the change of homepage. Good question, I dont really

know what AVG does but I always think its a spyware.

The Add-ons looks very ordinary:-

Shockwave Flash Object- Macromedia

SSHelper Class-Sun Microsystem

Sun Java Console -Sun Microsystem

Window Genunine Advantage - MS

Windows Live Safety .. (2X) -MS

WuwebControl Class - MS

Will revert with the Windows Live Onecare once its done. Thanks

What the Anti-Spyware software Name wanted you to change your Home page and

to what name, could you be more descriptive please?.

Best if you didn't allow the change and run the HijackThis and send the log

to any forum for analysis.

RE: IE encountered a problem ....

Either AVG or Super Antispyware that I have installed wanted to change my

home page to the std msn page. The strange thing is say from the

windowsupdate page and go to I.O and change my home page or any other

webpage, then launch the IE from taskbar, it will show up meaning I can surf

but when I then change to my home page, the error message will appears.

There is nothing wrong with my original homepage website as I can access

from another pc without any problem. Will check with the web host next week.

Guess it has something to do with BHO or its certificate that is corrupted

and I need to download a fresh before I can view the page.

Window Live Onecare scan doesn't helps too. Posted a HJ log in the forum

...............thanks and will keep you posted of the progress.
