You could disable scandisk after bad shutdown.

Re: On boot up pc starts a disk scan

Thanks for the link, It appears that Microsoft no longer supplies linksto

the downloads since they stopped support for Windows 98, I did however was

able to verify the file IFSMGR.VXD version and saw that the newer one was a

different version than what I had. I cecked on another Windows 98 PC and

infact had the newer version. I copied the file and replaced the older with

the new, made the registry change as suggested and as of now all seems good.

I did make back ups of the registry and the old file JUST in case.

Thanks again for your pointing me in the right direction.

IIRC, you should have been able to get the updtae by going to Windows Update and

scanning for updates, then clicking the NON-Critical updates to find the IDE Hard

Drive Cache update.

Re: On boot up pc starts a disk scan

Yes U R correct. I actually had that particular update unchedked.

Hopefully replacing the file with the correct file and making the suggested

registry change will solve my issue. so far no scan on reboots,

Would you suggest leaving well enough alone or undo what I did and now

install the update, or run the update over what I have already done?

As usual, thanks again Glen.

Re: On boot up pc starts a disk scan

If it ain't broke (anymore), don't fix it.

You already have the newer version of the file now, so that's all you really need,

along with the Registry edit. Installing the update over it, or re-doing it, won't

serve any further purpose in this case.

Thanks to Ingeborg, who spotted your problem right away. :-)
