Hi,

Only recently users when logging onto the Terminal Server have started to

encountered this problem, RPC server unavailable, it doen's happen to all

users and not all the time but it can take several attempts before they can

sucessfully logon.

The DC is running Windows 2003 Std SP2 and the Terminal Server is running

Windows 2003 Std SP1

Has anyone come across this issue recently and on how to resolve it?

Re: RPC Server Unavailable

Check if this fixes your problem:

883670 - FIX: The Terminal Services service stops responding in

Windows Server 2003 and you receive an "The RPC service is

unavailable" error message when you try to connect to the terminal

server by using the Remote Desktop Connection program

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=883670

If it doesn't: is there anything else that you can tell us?

Does this happen completely at random, or is there a pattern? Time

of day, user load on the TS, time since last reboot of the TS,

etc.

Have you considered to install SP2 on the TS?

Check this as well:

905700 - You may receive an "RPC server is too busy to complete

this operation" error message when you try to log on to a computer

that is running Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 1

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=905700

Re: RPC Server Unavailable

Hi,

Its pretty random, the error only started when we rebuilt and install SP2 on

the DC, prior to that we had no problems for over a year.

We will install SP2 on the TS today and see if that make any differences.

Yes, SP2 is a good idea anyway. Please let us know if it solves

Re: RPC Server Unavailable

Hi,

Have installed SP2 on the TS Box and the problem is still there? Any further

ideas as to what might be causing this. I now have the same problem on

another site where the TS and DC boxes are running with Windows 2003 std SP2

installed.

Re: RPC Server Unavailable

Since the problem started when you rebuild the DC, I assume that

you also rebuild your DNS? Could be a DNS problem.

Check if this helps:

224370 - Troubleshooting "RPC Server is Unavailable" in Windows

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/224370/en-us

555839 - The system cannot log you on due to the following error:

The RPC server is unavailable

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555839/en-us

911799 - Error message in a Windows Server 2003-based domain or in

a Windows 2000 Server-based domain: "The remote procedure call

failed and did not run"

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911799/en-us

Hi,

I can ping the servers in the domain by servername without any problems but

will take a look at the links that you have noted.

Will update you shortly.
