RDP 6 and Terminal Server Farms

Recommended Posts

I have a terminal server farm with name farm.ad.domain.com that has 5

terminal server nodes running 2003 enterprise. RDP 5.1 and 5.2 connect to

(virtual) farm.ad.domain.com which hits my session directory server and

connects to the appropriate node.

RDP 6 can connect to each node in the farm (tries to log on locally and not

to domain account, separate issue) but I can't make it connect to the virtual

farm name or farm's virtual ip address.

When we upgrade to Vista next year this will be a major issue. How can i

get RDP 6 to connect to the terminal farm name?

RE: RDP 6 and Terminal Server Farms

Since nobody knew what was happening I finally found a resolution, or what

seems to be a resolution for others if you run into this.

I was using multicast with single nics on my nodes. RDP 6 couldn't connect

to a virtual housed on a single nic with multiple IP addresses. I connected

a second nic in my nodes and set the slower of the 2 nics as part of the NLB

and the faster nic as the dedicated nic for TS. This time RDP 6 worked. So

from what I have seen, please correct me if this is incorrect, using

multicast with multiple IP's that create a virtual farm name can't be

connected to since there isn't an actual authentication point on the virtual

IP. When there was an actual nic dedicated to the NLB ip address it was able

to connect and redirect as normal. So I guess i will have to reconfig my NLB

to not use multiple IP address on a single nic.
