Hi again,

My gf's pc has died on her and has no power at all. I tried replacing the PSU and I got no joy, however I just read somewhere that if I had plugged the SATA Hdd cable in upside down, nothing would have happened, is that true?

Also if its not the case of me just being a tiny bit stupid, what else could it possibly be? We have checked the connections and the power cable and the socket and they are all ok.

Thanks again,

Sparx

I think it's highly unlikely that you could plug the cable in upside down Sparx.

It sounds to me like the original PSU has blown and taken the board with it.

Hmm thought that might be the case...she is not gonna be happy, now I just need to find a scapegoat to tell her :op

Well that's just my opinion Sparx, other may have a different point of view but if you have tried another psu and still no joy then logic dictates that which I have said.

Procure flowers at your earliest opportunity.

Agreed that it's probably the board and/or processor, but it won't hurt to check the power button. If you're good with an ohm meter, check the operation of the power button by pulling the power button connection off the board and use the power meter to check its operation.

If you're good with a volt meter, you can check the power supply. Let us know if you need more info.

Wait a minute are you saying take it to a shop and get them to tell her the bad news Sparx?

Do so by all means but I hope you have a fat wallet for the time involved for them to look at it.

I was only joking about, I just told her the bad news and now i've been roped into rebuilding her computer...ah the joys :op
