Sparx Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 Hi again, My gf's pc has died on her and has no power at all. I tried replacing the PSU and I got no joy, however I just read somewhere that if I had plugged the SATA Hdd cable in upside down, nothing would have happened, is that true? Also if its not the case of me just being a tiny bit stupid, what else could it possibly be? We have checked the connections and the power cable and the socket and they are all ok. Thanks again, Sparx Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 I think it's highly unlikely that you could plug the cable in upside down Sparx. It sounds to me like the original PSU has blown and taken the board with it. Quote
Sparx Posted April 20, 2008 Author Posted April 20, 2008 Hmm thought that might be the case...she is not gonna be happy, now I just need to find a scapegoat to tell her :op Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 Well that's just my opinion Sparx, other may have a different point of view but if you have tried another psu and still no joy then logic dictates that which I have said. Procure flowers at your earliest opportunity. Quote
Sparx Posted April 20, 2008 Author Posted April 20, 2008 I think it'll take more than flowers...shes one of the rare girl gamers :P she's lost without her pc :op Quote
Tony D Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 Agreed that it's probably the board and/or processor, but it won't hurt to check the power button. If you're good with an ohm meter, check the operation of the power button by pulling the power button connection off the board and use the power meter to check its operation. If you're good with a volt meter, you can check the power supply. Let us know if you need more info. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Sparx Posted April 20, 2008 Author Posted April 20, 2008 I am good with neither and dont own either anyways, I'll just give her the old, go see pc world line and then they can tell her the bad news and suffer her wrath :op Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 Wait a minute are you saying take it to a shop and get them to tell her the bad news Sparx? Do so by all means but I hope you have a fat wallet for the time involved for them to look at it. Quote
Sparx Posted April 20, 2008 Author Posted April 20, 2008 I was only joking about, I just told her the bad news and now i've been roped into rebuilding her computer...ah the joys :op Quote
