Guest Greg Nash Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 After scheduling a backup task to run every night using my backup program "Acronis", the next morning I always get a windows error message: "This application has failed to start because WS2_32.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." I've reinstalled the application, but this doesn't help. Acronis technical support says "Since WS2_32.dll is a system file we may recommend you to restore your system to avoid this error message", which doesn't help either. I posted a question on the Wilders Security Forum, which is the official Acronis (and others) support forum. The file WS2_32.dll is in my system32 folder in the windows folder. I also have it in my c:/i386 folder. Every other program (and there are many) I use has no problems. Also, all my internet related programs work fine. I can't find any information that relates my backup program Acronis to this file. I have Windows XP Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600. I only have one internal hard drive with all my applications and systems on it. Does anyone have any idea what the problem is and how I fix it? I don't want to do any big system reinstall. Thanks Greg Nash

What happens if you put a copy of WS2_32.DLL in the same folder that Acronis executes from?

You may need to reboot afterwards. -- Joe =o)

But did you try typing SFC /SCANNOW If I type SFC/SCANNOW I get the same error as you. -- Joe =o)

(It's neat program of which I wasn't aware.) But it didn't work.

However, you didn't tell me if TrueImage executed correctly if you ran it from its own icon (i.e. not as a scheduled task).

Consider trying some of their suggestions, such as the Winsock fix, mentioned in most. http://search.microsoft.com/results.aspx?mkt=en-US&setlang=en-US&q=WS2_32.dll -- Joe =o)
