When streaming videos from the internet through a windows media player app i only seem to get audio and either a blank black or white screen. This first happened on the BBC livesports streams but is now happening on all other video content using media player. Any ideas? Any help will be appreciated, thanks.

edit: the OS is XP and media player is version 11.

Hi raj;

A little more info would be helpful if you can give it please.

Make and model of your computer.

Version of Media Player.

Are you showing any problems in Device Manager?

What display adapters or video do you have?

Have you tried updating the drivers?

Is this now happening with non-streaming content?

Is this an embedded media player app and not Windows Media Player?

Hey Randy, sorry about the lack of info.

My laptop is a Fujitsu Siemens AMILO Pro. Media Player is version 11. No problems showing in device manager. Im not sure what adapters i have and not sure where i could download the latest drivers. It is only happening with streaming content and only with embedded media player apps. Hope that helps!

Hey raj;

Your other post indicates you are using AVG so I suggested to follow our malware guide there. On the off chance it's related you could try that.

By the way which browser and version are you running?

Do you have all the Windows updates?

Hey, yes i thought it may be an infection but so far no results. (we seem to have split this discussion into 2 threads lol). Im using IE7 and have got all the latest updates.

Open IE7 and perform a reset:

1.Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.2.On the Advanced tab, click Reset.3.In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset. 4.When Internet Explorer 7 finishes restoring the default settings, click Close, and then click OK two times. 5.Close Internet Explorer 7. The changes take effect the next time that you open Internet Explorer 7.

If that doesn't help, go here, download a run the klite basic codec pack (first one on the list). Restart the computer and see if that helps.
