Guest Jack Lake Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 When I try to delete a particular folder in Windows Explorer it gives me the error message "Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk". I have two of these Folder/files that refuse to be erased. Both were created as leftovers after I used a program called clit.exe which is used to convert an ebook .lit file to an ebook HTML file. The program does in fact work as promised, but somehow erases the original file on the disk without telling Explorer about it, or at least that's what I think is happening since Scandisk says there are no disk errors. How can I erase this folder/file that thinks it is a file (but isn't) in the Explorer interface? (Explorer works fine in all other respects.) There must be a hidden command somewhere but I sure can't find it.

Unfortunately the other bad folder/file is in the Recycle Bin and none of the 3 suggested utilities seems to see the Recycle Bin. The Recycle Bin still works ok in that it dumps as normal except for that one folder/file which gives me an error message (that it can't find the file) whether I try to restore or delete it.

Ah, sweet success. I couldn't delete or restore it from the Recycle Bin but it did let me cut/paste it back into the regular area of Explorer from which I zapped it too with Unlocker. Again thanks for the utility suggestion. It solved the problem.
