Guest KCav Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 I am unable to capture a screen image using the PrtSc key, nor am I able to capture the contents of an active window using Alt PrtSc key combination. By capture I mean I ran clipBrk.exe immediately after PrtSc and it was empty. Perhaps some graphics application has taken over these features. How can I determine exactly what happens when I press PrtSc. -- KC

Guest db ´¯`·.. > Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Re: How to analyze a malfunction not sure. however, it takes memory to be available for reserving the image. also, eventhough the clipbook/board service is enabled, i think you still need to run the exe program - but i don't remember anymore. on my system i can simply press "the" print screen button and paste it into word or paint. what you might want to try is to download a freeware on print screens or clipboards, there are dozens of them available. if a freeware seems to work for you whereas the windows standard print screen does not, then this could be a clue to look further into your problem, that is if you still want to spend time figuring it out. i suppose what also comes to mind is that your keyboard button may be faulty as well. windows has an onscreen keyboard via the accessibility options. you can use your mouse, hover over the visual print screen button then click it. afterwards alt tab to wordpad and see if this captured your screen. you may also want to see if the above option will work in your safemode. let us know what you find out with the above..... -- db ·´¯`·.¸. , . .·´¯`·..><)))º>`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸.·´¯`·...¸><)))º>¸. ><)))º>·´¯`·.¸. , . .·´¯`·.. ><)))º>`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸.·´¯`·...¸><)))º> .. Guest db ´¯`·.. > Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Re: How to analyze a malfunction well, it is unlikely that a third party program, as i had suggested will do any better because they require a keyboard as well. i think your discoveries have provided you with some useful information with analyzing this issue. basically, what you have discovered is that the malfunction seems to be a hardware issue, involving your keyboard. keyboard issues are not uncommon at all. could be something physical that is interfering underneath the cap of that key, could be a corrupted keyboard driver, etc... in the interim, if you can't get the keyboard functioning or replaced, simply use your onscreen keyboard for your print screen function. consider the microsoft's onscreen keyboard a better alternative than a third party software.... let us know what you discover and or do... track now w -- db ·´¯`·.¸. , . .·´¯`·..><)))º>`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸.·´¯`·...¸><)))º>¸. ><)))º>·´¯`·.¸. , . .·´¯`·.. ><)))º>`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸.·´¯`·...¸><)))º> .. Guest KCav Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 Re: How to analyze a malfunction Work Around I put a short-cut to Electronic Keyboard in my Administrative Tools menu so I can access the Electronic Keyboard by clicking on Start and pointing to Administrative Tools | Elecrtonic Keyboard. I capture the entire screen into memory by clickig on the PrtSc key on the Electronic Keyboard; open Photoshop and paste the image into a new file so I can crop it to remove the keyboard; save it in JPG format at minimum resolution. I open Word, insert the picture, add my comments and questions, and save it as a document file. The procedure works. It would be nice to automate it with a script file that pauses to allow capture and cropping. -- KC "db ´¯`·.. ><)))º>` .. ." wrote: > well, it is unlikely that > a third party program, > as i had suggested will > do any better because they > require a keyboard > as well. > > i think your discoveries > have provided you with > some useful information > with analyzing this issue. > > basically, what you have > discovered is that the malfunction > seems to be a hardware issue, > involving your keyboard. > > keyboard issues are not > uncommon at all. could > be something physical that > is interfering underneath > the cap of that key, > could be a corrupted keyboard > driver, etc... > > in the interim, if you can't get > the keyboard functioning or replaced, > simply use your onscreen keyboard > for your print screen function. > > consider the microsoft's onscreen keyboard a > better alternative than a third party > software.... > > let us know what you discover > and or do... > > > track now w > > -- > > db ·´¯`·.¸. , . .·´¯`·..><)))º>`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸.·´¯`·...¸><)))º>¸. > ><)))º>·´¯`·.¸. , . .·´¯`·.. ><)))º>`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸.·´¯`·...¸><)))º> > > > .. > > > "KCav" <KCav@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:715DAFE4-2388-4DAD-AA5B-9709713935F9@microsoft.com... > > Thank you for your reply. > > > > I performed a PrtSc using Windows on screen keyborad.
