The end of XP was the day it was released

They're still supplying updates for Win 2000, so it'll probably be

supported for a while!

And what does it matter. You think it'll suddenly stop working?

Re: XP end-of-life

Actually neither of you answered the question, maybe you should read it

again.

"...ending the production and distrubution of XP..."

Not, "how long will it be supported", when will it be unavailable to

purchase a new license for XP.

I thought I read January 2008, but the OP might be better directing this to

Microsoft as I don't know if they have officially put a date on it yet.

The "official" statement is here

System Builder License Availability (end date) January 31, 2009

as per

And again I ask, "what does it matter?". Copies will always be

available.

You can still buy new, legitimate copies of Windows 98 on EBay. In fact, you

can still buy new copies of Windows 95 on EBay, Windows 3.11, even. You'll

be able to buy new, legitimate copies of XP for several more years to come.

Re: XP end-of-life

Probably, but those OSes are not still produced and distributed are they,

(unless you want to use "distributed" in it's loosest possible meaning - the

OP states by MS, and I think it's safe to assume by MS approved providers).

It's also significantly different because it requires activation, otherwise

it will stop working.

It does make me wonder what MS will do regarding activation at the end of

the support cycle.
