RE: Password forgot

Gaurav,

This seems to be a production server... Especially with SAP, this means

that you don't want any half-measures or anything that jeopardizes your

business. That being said, you need to consider whether this is a server you

need where another box can pick up for it, or whether there is data on it

that you truly need. Unless you come up with the password, consider the box

dead and the only remaining options are simply to get data off of it.

To answer your questions by number:

1. If you don't have this machine on a domain, then your only option is to

crack it, otherwise you'd be logging in with a domain admin account.

Cracking it usually involves loading a LINUX shell from a disk, CD, or USB

drive and resetting the local account passwords. Once this is done, the

machine should be considered tainted for an enterprise role and should be

formatted and rebuilt once you have the data off of it. You can find dozens

of links to these tools through a google search by looking for "Windows

Password Recovery".

2. The precaution is to not lose your password. Security credentials are

there for a reason and making it easier to recover would weaken the platform.

Being part of a domain gives you other administrator accounts to use if you

lose one, but losing a credential is losing the credential.

3. Don't lose your password.

Sorry for being so blunt, but this is central to keeping your enterprise

secure.
