Guest bgormley Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 I'm not sure what the problem is but I've been trying to transfer an Access database to my Windows ME laptop from my desktop using a GE Intelligent Stick USB device. I have Office 2000 installed on the laptop so it has Access 2000 on the laptop. So why can't I open the database when I try to? I keep getting the message 'c:\ohiotraders_be.mdb' is not a valid path, etc. I've tried opening it from the E drive (the external device) and also from the C drive, where I've saved it. Maybe someone will have an answer for this. I want to be able to take this database on the road with me.
Guest Mart Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 Re: Using USB Intelligent Stick with laptop (Windows ME) What size does Windows Explorer show the 'ohiotraders_be.mdb' file on the memory stick to be? Are you sure you've copied the actual 'ohiotraders_be.mdb' file - the database - to your memory stick. From here, it sounds like you've only copied the shortcut - hence it is attempting to look for the C: drive (the C: drive of your 'other' computer!). It shouldn't even be looking at a shortcut path as the 'new path' is your memory stick and you should be looking at the .mdb file itself on the stick. Guest Melinda Chase Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 Re: Using USB Intelligent Stick with laptop (Windows ME) Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree here, but you say the database can't find c:\ohiotraders_be.mdb Is it possible that the database you have copied is the "front end" of the database and it's looking for the "back end" of the database? The _be designation is usually applied to the back end when Access's Database Splitter utility is used. The front end of a database is where the forms, reports and queries are stored, while the tables are stored in the back end. You might have to copy ohiotraders_be.mdb to the c: drive before you'll be able to use the database. Guest Mart Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 Re: Using USB Intelligent Stick with laptop (Windows ME) Hi Melinda, I think you're definitely up the right tree. I'd forgotten about splitting a database and I'm sure that your explanation is the correct one.
