Guest SAMF2000 Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 With all the Hype about Vista, not many people actually want it. MS is doing everything for you to buy it. Even making games like Halo 2 exclusive for Vista. What MS does not realize is that they had a great, stable OS Which was just lacking perfect security, but for the average person XP Is great for gaming, photos movies and works with all current drivers. When people start complaining about VISTA I actually laugh because all the problems they are having are because companies like Lexmark, Canon and Nvidia all want you to buy new hardware and are not that quick to make drivers for OLD Hardware.
Guest Not Me Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 Re: If it ain't broke... I think the 'new blood' at MS wanted their ideas implemented to prove to the 'old guard' how much better they could do it.. To me, it looks like they hired all the programmers laid off from AOL. The protect me from myself at all costs attitude doesn't fly with me. XP and the other software I used provided security that was just fune for my needs. All I see in Vista is eye candy and an AOL type interface that has to be hacked to work 'as desired' instead of 'as designed'. Guest Curt Christianson Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 Re: If it ain't broke... I'm certainly not going to rush and buy Vista (Service Packs or not). Let it be out there a few years, then decide. I was one of the never-say-die W98SE fans, but now I'm running XP Pro. Prolly only reason is, is I inherited the machine this way. Half of my dislike was the "Fisher_price" eye-candy, which I'm able to turn off. This XP box looks more and more like 98 everyday--and that's an important point to me. If I leave off all the extraneous items, and adjust for best performance, there goes all the pretty pastels, and I get W98 performance (well, closer) AND a W98 look and feel. My other reason to hate XP was I didn't know it, and it scared me. I still don't know it well, *but it doesn't scare me any longer*. Don't let this get any further than our "private chat room" here, but I'm beginning to kind of like XP. And with NTFS, I'll be *damned* if I can crash this box. -- HTH, Curt Windows Support Center http://www.aumha.org Practically Nerded,... http://dundats.mvps.org/Index.htm "SAMF2000" <SamuelF566@gmail.com> wrote in message news:1184827172.862797.126990@x35g2000prf.googlegroups.com... | With all the Hype about Vista, not many people actually want it. Guest PowerUser Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 Re: If it ain't broke... Oh ok Well Windows is worth money to me, because I make money off it. My work depends on it. Probably everyone's found this out by now but an OEM Newegg license can be bought separately for as low as ~180 USD when I last checked. Smashing deal except I'd recommend using XP till SP1 is released. SP1 will fix MANY crucial things including how it interacts with software that asks for more than 2GB per program. For more read the excellent memory article recently posted at Anandtech. Guest Martin C Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 Re: If it ain't broke... Although there is higher tax here, the doubling of prices compared with the US and UK is more down to profiteering by MS and other companies. They have decided that as we are to be stomped on for some reason. It is not just MS. Take for instance the Playstation 3. It is listed as twice the price here than in the US. Also you are able to get the 80GB version but we are not even offered the option. Maybe because it would cost too much over here. It is high time other countries treated Europe with the same prices as they have. Just about everything software and hardware PC orientated is much cheaper in the US - often by a factor of 2. As for petrol - don't get me started. Sorry, couldn't resist the winge.
