Guest JethroUK© Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 before shutting down my old p.c. i need to make sure the files are fully accessible from my new p.c. via network cable - i don't need any security for these files at all but i don't want to have to rig it all back up because i can't access the data 1/ the drive itself is already 'shared' by default? but it won't even let me look at permissions so i'm assuming it's accessible from a networked machine 2/ the main folder (there are serveral but i can put them into one) i should set: 'share this folder' = checked permissions = 'everyone' read/write (this is default so will it give me access?) security tab still shows different users with different permissions - do i need to make any changes here? is this good to go or have i overlooked something?

Guest Bob I Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 Re: Full Access Folder Is the PC going to be scrapped? If you are networking the boxes, put administrator lever accounts with exactly the SAME username AND password combo on both PC's then, logon to the "remote PC" and access the old box at will. Guest Gary S. Terhune Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 Re: Full Access Folder Sounds like you're good to go, but the thing to do is test with both computers having a monitor & mouse, etc. Once you've tested OKI, you can probably rely on the scheme you've devised, but understand that sharing tends to have it's problems that pop up every once in a while, and you'll need to ability to "see" (with a monitor) both systems in order to resolve any problems. -- Gary S.
