I'm in the process of locating a replacement laptop keyboard for a

Compaq Presario M2000. The part number on the bottom of the

keyboard is AECT1TPU023.

So I google.. compaq laptop keyboard replacement parts

and begin shopping around. I find keyboards from various online vendors

ranging in price from about $40 to $75 and on Ebay most advertized as

new range from $12 to $18. Wow, what a range of price!

Does anyone have any insights on the price and quality of keyboards

versus the wide range of prices available from the variious vendors online?

Any recommendations for reliable vendors of laptop parts would be appreciated.

PS: This is for a laptop that I will be getting paid to repair.

Though I've not worked very much on new laptops, from my experience with old (we're talking 386s and earlier) portables, the compatibility from one manufacturer to another may be an issue. Make sure that if you go with a cheaper one, that it is fully compatible with the laptop you're repairing. Also, I would wager that the cheaper ones probably don't feel as nice as the higher price alternatives.

(And I've used quite a gamut of keyboards, feel can make a lot of difference when you're hammering out a couple thousand words or lines of code. ;) )

I've replaced quite a few that I purchased on Ebay. The ad will state if it's an original replacement. I haven't had a problem going that route.
