Guest Frank Martin Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 I have WindowsXP pro. I have upgraded to Norton Ghost 12.0 from the old Ghost 2003. However the backup (image?) files in Ghost 12.0 are about three times the size of the ones in Ghost2003. Can anyone explain why this is so; perhaps I have the wrong settings in Ghost 12.0? Please help.
Guest JS Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 Re: Norton Ghost question - file sizes. I'm still on Ghost 10, but I presume version 12 has different levels of compression and maybe it's off by default. Guest Brian A. Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 Re: Norton Ghost question - file sizes. You had an option to split the image into smaller files of the size you want for each while setting it up. You also had the choice for which compression setting you wanted to use while setting up the image archive to run. Open Ghost. On the Menu bar click Help > Contents > Index tab. Scroll to what you need information on or Type spl and you should see splitting images. Type com and you should see Compressing backups. Double click an entry listed in the index and read the instructions in the right pane. -- Brian A. Sometime back I gave version 8 or 9 a try and it was nothing short of junk so I have stayed with the true blue version 2003. I was wondering why you chose to leave 2003 and go to a later version? or..... Is this a peek/see of a later version and if it blows, you will be back to the tried a true version 2003. Regards, Stan
Guest Brian A. Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 Re: Norton Ghost question - file sizes. Ghost v.9 is a great application and in my case much better than Ghost 2003 for creating network machine images/archives. The GUI is set up somewhat different than 2003 and one change in v.9 is the ability to schedule backups. -- Brian A. Guest Frank Martin Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 Re: Norton Ghost question - file sizes. I must say that I had no trouble with the Ghost2003, though this 12.0 version seems to do the backup while the computer is still being used. I am not on a network of any sort.
