empty folder keeps appearing on my desktop

An empty folder keeps apearing on my desktop. I was able to delete it, but

after a while, it will reappear again. I keep deleting it, but it just keeps

appearing on my desktop after a while. I've tried using DelinvFile and

MoveOnBoot to move the folder, I've also tried to boot in safe mode and

delete the folder. However, the folder just keeps appearing on my desktop.

Any other suggestions on how I can remove this folder ?

What happens if you change it to a hidden folder? At least you shouldn't be

able to see it.

What is the name of this mystery folder? The most common reason for

problems of this type is that the registry contains an entry to run a

particular program. However if the path to the program contains a space in

one of the folder names, then the whole entry must be in quotes or the

parsing stops at the space* which resolves to an instruction to open a

folder. If the folder doesn't exist, Windows helpfully creates it.

From the 'start' button select 'Run...'. Enter 'msconfig' in the gox and

hit [Return]. One of the tabs (startup) or similar will list all the

registry entries that start proceses running. One of these may provide your

answer.

*For some reason this behaviour isn't universal and many unquoted entries

will behave as intended despite the spaces.

Are you able to associate it to any particular program?

Maybe you have set a folder on you desktop in the options of an app, and

whenever you run that app it creates the folder.

Any chance you are accidentally right-clicking and creating a new folder. It

can happen accidentally and very quickly.

Maybe the creation date of each new folder may give a clue.

Thanks for your comments. I ran 'msconfig' and from the startup menu, the is

a suspicious row: there is no entry under the 'Startup' & 'Command' category,

however, there is something under the 'location' category. Will it be safe

for me to uncheck this row ?

The name of this mystery folder is 'Tour One'. I created this folder a few

weeks ago to store some photos. But I've deleted this folder & all its

contetns. This new 'Tour One' folder that keeps appearing on my desktop has

no content in it.

Re: empty folder keeps appearing on my desktop

The only suspicious line i can find on msconfig is an empty item. I've

disabled it. However, the folder still keeps appearing. I can delete it, but

after a while, it will just find its way back to my desktop......
