Edit DVD

Hi

 

Although this is my first post, so many here are familiar. :-) A big hello to you all.

 

I have copied a VHS tape of a home movie to DVD. I would now like to edit the DVD by cutting out the unwanted parts (the fuzzy parts between scenes). That is all the editing that I would like to do.

 

Can you suggest a software program that would easily do that ?

Well you could try Windows Movie Maker, a default program that comes with Windows.

 

Have a look in Start, All Programs.

I don't know how to import the DVD into the Windows Movie Maker.

 

I need a program that can import from a DVD - like the IFO/VOB files that are stored in a Video_TS folder.

Wolfey, it says unsupported file. I tired both IFO and VOB.

 

There is a program called AVS Video Tools that does this but it cost $40 US to buy which is kind of steep.

I was hoping that I could do this a cheaper way.

There are .bup, .ifo, and .vob files on the dvd. The VOB files say MPEG type.

If you have the original file which would be in one single file type then you can use Windows Movie Maker to edit it.

 

If you only have the DVD and the files associated with it then you will probably need to convert it to a single file type to edit it then make a new DVD.

 

Although there might be free programs to do this you should not need them as in most cases unless you don't own the dvd or didn't make it yourself copy right protection would be the only problem.

 

The bottom line is use your original home made file and edit it in Windows Movie Maker. Then Burn it to DVD with the program of your choice.

The trouble is I do not know how to make a single file that Windows Movie Maker can read. I think the VOB file is probable what is needed but WMM won't read it. :-(

Vivienne.... as an avid movie maker user, I would not suggest using movie maker for the movie you are wanting to edit. Movie maker is not friendly for importing movie files, and after editing, you will need an additional program to burn the movie file to a DVD.

 

I would suggest doing a google search for "free movie editing software." You might even be able to try a demo version of commercial software to see if you like it. Also you will need DVD authoring software to burn you movie file to a DVD after you edit it. (Some DVD drives come with authoring software. My DVD burner came with a limited version of Nero.)

 

Before downloading or buying any software, check to make sure that you can alter the save setting to be able to save your edited movie in a format that will import into DVD authoring programs. (Being in the USA, when I use wmm, I change the save setting to NTSC to be able to import into my authoring program. NTSC will not open back up in wmm. )
