Guest Sudy Nim Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 I have a very old Apple computer that is presently used only with Claris FileMaker pro. These files date way back (1991) and are now too big so I would like to convert them to my PC and bid adieu to the Mac. Does anyone know of a forum, newsgroup or can you help me in this endeavor? I realize that this is a topic for Mac and or FileMaker but so far my search has not found a source for this question. Thank you.
Guest Wandering Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 Re: Mac to PC off topic sort of I work on a Mac at the office and a Win98SE PC at home. I much prefer the PC. At the office we use FileMaker Pro, and I wanted to convert the database to Access. All the software I found is pricey for a one time job, so I don't have much help for you. I understand later versions of FM will export to a DBF format, and almost anything can read that. Our version does not. Good luck! -------------------------------------------- "Sudy Nim" <pseudonym@noplace.com> wrote in message news:Gm8oi.178676$Sa4.70511@bgtnsc05-news.ops.worldnet.att.net... > I have a very old Apple computer that is presently used only with Claris > FileMaker pro. The Operating System does not matter (unless you planned to create a Network connecting the Apple to the PC.) What matters is: 1. File format, that the PC software will read and the Apple can output. We do not know what formats this Claris app can make. 2. Data transmission method, e.g. by email or via floppy etc. E,g, there was in the 1990s software to enable an Apple to write IBM-format floppies and to enable a PC to read Apple floppies. You are likely to get better advice in an Apple NG rather than a Win98 NG because the OS is irrelevant. -- Don Phillipson Carlsbad Springs (Ottawa, Canada)

Most modern database systems like Access should be able to import semicolon-separated data. This way you get the data to the new system at least (if you can't find an export format from FileMaker that pc datbase software can import, that would be better ofcourse.) but you have to make other things likes tablerules/forms/reports/querys etc manually. >> know of a forum, newsgroup or can you help me in this endeavor? I did also post this question on a couple of Mac newsgroups and got several suggestions in response. Several in reference to Access, which I am not familiar with, I'll have to look into it. Sudy Nim
